How to choose Pagid Racing pads: shape and compound

Every Pagid Racing part number combines two pieces of information. The shape is the outline of the pad and depends only on the caliper: in the part number it is the four-digit number after the E (E4934R29 = shape 4934). The compound is the friction material and depends on how you use the car: in the part number it is the final part (E4934R29 = RSL 29). First find the right shape for your caliper, then choose the compound.

To find the shape: look for your car in the compatibility list on the product pages, or compare the dimensions of the fitted pad (length, width and thickness) with the Pagid drawing. On cars with factory carbon ceramic brakes the shape is often different from the iron-brake version: always check the version.

Pagid Racing compounds and their colours

• RSL, the yellow Pagid (endurance and track days): wide temperature window, excellent modulation, disc friendly, work well with ABS. RSL 29 is the most used compound at track days and in club racing; RSL 1 and RSL 1E for endurance races; RSL 2 and 2E for GT and endurance prototypes; RSL 19 and RSL D1 mainly at the rear.
• RST, the red Pagid (rally and sprint): instant response, consistently firm pedal, high fade resistance. RST 3 is the most versatile (tarmac and gravel, up to around 800 °C), RST 1 the most aggressive, RST 5E built for rallying.
• RSC, the black Pagid (carbon ceramic discs): RSC 1 for track days and demanding road use with carbon ceramic discs, RSC 2 for racing.
• RS (all-round): RS 42, the blue Pagid, beds in quickly and responds immediately even when cold; RS 14 and RS 44 for club racing and the rear axle.
• RSH (historic cars): RSH 3, RSH 29E and RSH 42 for cars from the 1950s to the 1990s.
• RSX: the premium compound for GT and TCR endurance races of more than 12 hours.
• K1 and K2 for karting, UTV 1 and UTV 2 for side-by-sides.

RSL 29 or RSL 1? RSL 29 or RST 3?

These are the most searched comparisons. RSL 29 has excellent initial bite, consistent friction and beds in easily: the right choice for most track days and club races. RSL 1 needs less pedal effort, is slightly progressive and wears pads and discs less: it is designed for endurance racing and high-mileage track users. RST 3 is a metal-ceramic compound with a firmer pedal and high fade resistance, preferred in rallying and by drivers who brake very hard on light cars. Bedding in Pagid Racing pads

Without correct bedding the brake system will not reach its full performance and service life. Pagid recommends this on-track procedure, identical for pads and discs:

1. Out lap: 10 stops at medium pressure from 150 to about 80 km/h.
2. Fast lap (race pace): 5 stops at medium to high pressure from 180 to about 60 km/h, with full acceleration between stops.
3. In lap: 3 to 5 stops at medium pressure from 150 to about 80 km/h.

Pagid advises not to fit a new disc and new pads at the same time, and to check that the compound is compatible with the friction layer already on a used disc.

Frequently asked questions

Are Pagid Racing pads street legal?
No, they are track and competition pads. For spirited road use there are the homologated Pagid Street+ pads.

What is the difference between yellow and red Pagid pads?
Yellow is the RSL family (endurance and track days, very easy to modulate and gentle on discs), red is the RST family (rally and sprint, firmer pedal and maximum fade resistance).

I have carbon ceramic brakes: which pads?
The RSC compounds, the black Pagid, developed specifically for carbon ceramic discs.

What is in the box?
