Launched in 1989, the 964 is the 911 that renewed almost everything while keeping the shape: about 85 per cent of its parts were new compared with the Carrera 3.2, coil springs replaced the torsion bars and the air-cooled flat-six grew to 3.6 litres and 250 PS. The all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 came first, followed a year later by the Carrera 2.
